P&O Ferrymasters is a leading pan-European specialist that offers numerous customized solutions in the field of transport, logistics and supply chain. The company is part of P&O Ferries Holdings Divisions Ltd – owned by DP World – and operates from more than 20 strategic locations in 13 countries on the continent. The company offers total solutions, from 3PL and 4PL activities to warehouse activities, interim management support and strategic advice for large clients. The concept is based on sustainable relationships where P&O Ferrymasters is an integral part of the client’s team. The 3PL and 4PL experts monitor existing processes and lead continuous improvement processes to optimize efficiency.

P&O Ferrymasters has formulated a strategic five-year plan, called Port Centric strategy. Warehousing will be its own core activity again; until recently, warehousing was purchased from partners. Port Centric Warehousing

To gain real-time insight into the warehouses, P&O Ferrymasters started looking for a Warehouse Management System. P&O Ferrymasters first compiled a long list and then a short list. They were looking for a low-threshold WMS that can be implemented quickly and that can grow with their operations. Since CORAX is a SaaS product, it can easily be scaled up and down. As the company grows, CORAX keeps the same pace.

Fast implementation

The implementation time in the Dutch warehouse was two months, from blue print to go-live. CORAX consultants have made a blue print of the warehouse; a kind of inventory of the logistics flows and how to organize this in CORAX. Subsequently, a proposal was made for implementation and our people started working in close collaboration with the customer. Warehouse United Kingdom

In the fall of 2020, P&O implemented a large customer in its warehouse in London Gateway. This customer stores excise goods. To comply with the requirements and regulations of HMRC (Her Majesties Revenue and Customs) for registration and storage of excise goods, the new Excise and Customs module in CORAX is used.

With this module it is possible to register specific excise information for the received stock: commodity code, excise product type, excise rate type, alcohol percentage, quantities in boxes, bottles including content and the eAD document number with which the goods were received. For the outbound flow, information is kept from which original eAD document the goods were picked, the destination of the goods, whether the goods are shipped with an eAD document or whether excise duties must be paid. The module also contains a balance and transaction report for all incoming transactions, adjustments, outgoing transactions in a specific period including opening balance at the beginning of the period.

For this new customer interfaces with the customer’s ERP, SAP in this case, have also been set up.
Most of the implementation work, including most interface settings, was done by P&O employees with some support from Davanti. This shows that CORAX is easy to learn for new users.

Multiple locations and multiple owners

CORAX supports the management and storage of goods from multiple stock owners in a warehouse. These can be different entities within one company or multiple customers of a logistics service provider. At an administrative level, the stocks remain separate but the administrative users and RF users can work for one or more inventory owners at the same time, if authorized.

CORAX also supports inventory management and goods flows across multiple separate storage locations within one and the same installation. Depending on the authorization, a user has access to one or more warehouses or work areas. The stock levels per warehouse and across all warehouses are always known in real time.

Future

After this implementation, a number of warehouses are still planned for P&O Ferrymasters. In addition to the first step, Rotterdam, the United Kingdom is the second step, after which it is Germany’s turn.
